The Far Blue Mountains

The Rocky Mountains ain't for everyone...ARE THEY?????

I pulled into Trail Creek Lodge at six in the evening. I'd driven 1,200 miles that day from Giddings, Texas to Soda Springs, Idaho (Road Warrior). I was greeted by Craig Reagor and Sid Davis and out came the Jim Beam!

"It's a tough summer and the water is super low, but the fishing has been wonderful" was the summery of conditions. They'd been quitting at noon each day as the water got to warm to release fish in good condition.

Rick Kirby and Steve Terrill had already arrived and had a couple of days of fishing under their belts. Steve had thrown his graphite G. Loomis down in some willows during a sudden lightning shower and hadn't been able to find it in two days of searching. The group was already talking about installing LOJACK on the rest of his tackle.

The weather started to cool, along with the water, within a day or two and the fishing really picked up! We fished a bunch of new water this year, some in nearby Wyoming. We were joined in coming weeks by: Lawrance Baggett, Gary and Liza Jennings (Fly Fishing in Salt Waters), Bob Hall and Ruth Anne Kocour, Lance Meller (the Pan Optx crew), Wendy Reagor, Corbett Davis, Jim Palumbo, Tony Amoriggi, Gary Fogel, Ben Munroe, Lou Taboury, Cpt. Greg Eklund, Diane Pallot, Gary Loomis, Dave Robinson, Rob Somma...Gosh, I can't remember everyone!

Diane got horrible heel blisters on her first day of fishing. Baggett came up with the idea of high top, canvas basketball shoes with the heel section cut out. We found some in Soda Springs, cut out the heels, and Diane was back in business. (Foto here)

This year. 2008, we'll start earlier, with higher, cooler water and perhaps some streamer fishing. I'll be there the second week in July and we'll fish right on through the end of the first week in Sept. Elk, archery will begin the next week (I'm already sharpening arrows). I hope you'll get a chance to join us this summer for fishing or for the elk, and recommend that you contact Sid Davis as soon as you can to make sure that there's room for you at the lodge. The Trail Creek experience is one that you really DON"T want to miss out on!!!
